On card #434, the I-P tag-team champion Galacti-Cops won the GWF tag-team titles from the Animal Pack. They were then forced to vacate the secondary belts and a 16-team tournament was formed to determine new champions.
The Assassin Empire beat the Royal Creeps in a qualifying match for the tournament. Tournament matches were held on cards #439-445, with the semifinals and finals being held at Galacticade '92.
